Moss The Forgotten Relic Beginner Guide

Learn the dual-control system, solve the first environmental puzzles and survive early Arcane encounters. These steps focus on Book I and avoid major story spoilers.

1

Start with Book I

The main menu allows access to Book I or Book II, but Book I introduces Quill, the Reader and the game's puzzle language in the intended story order.

Book II includes a recap and control refresher, but its puzzles and combat become more demanding.
2

Separate Quill and Reader Controls

Use Quill's controls for running, jumping, climbing, dodging and sword attacks. Use the Reader cursor and interaction input to grab blocks, operate platforms, pull mechanisms and hold Arcane enemies.

Before attempting a busy room, identify which actions belong to Quill and which belong to the Reader.
3

Read the Environment

Look for scratch marks on ledges, walls and movable surfaces. These visual marks commonly indicate where Quill can climb or where an object must be positioned.

Check foreground corners, upper ledges and routes partly hidden behind scenery.
4

Build the Route First

Move blocks beneath ledges, align platforms and activate mechanisms before sending Quill across. Preparing the entire route reduces failed jumps and unnecessary resets.

If a platform returns to its original position, keep holding it with the Reader while Quill crosses.
5

Use Arcane Enemies as Puzzle Tools

The Reader can hold or control beetle-like Arcane enemies. Move them onto pressure plates, use them to trigger switches or keep them still while Quill attacks.

Do not defeat every enemy immediately because some puzzles require an active Arcane unit.
6

Fight, Dodge and Heal

Use short sword combinations, dodge away from visible attacks and create space before healing Quill through the Reader interaction. A Skip Combat option is also available during combat sections and boss encounters.

Hold nearby enemies with the Reader or move Quill to a safe corner before healing.
7

Collect Scrolls and Relic Dust

Search optional routes for scrolls and break barrels, crates and pots for Relic Dust. Scrolls unlock stained-glass artwork, while Relic Dust becomes important for special areas and optional content in Book II.

The game autosaves regularly, and falling or being defeated usually returns Quill to the latest checkpoint or the beginning of the room.

Moss The Forgotten Relic Walkthrough and Chapter Order

Follow the intended Book I, Twilight Garden and Book II route without revealing major endings. Each section lists its chapters, main objective and important mechanics.

Chapter 1: The ClearingChapter 2: Leaving Home

Main Objective

Meet Quill, establish the Reader bond, return toward her home and begin the journey to find Sir Argus.

Key Mechanics

Basic movement, climbing, jumping, movable blocks, simple switches, healing and early sword combat.

Covers the story setup without revealing major encounters.

Moss The Forgotten Relic Puzzle Solutions

Use these spoiler-light solutions for puzzle types repeated across both books. Each guide explains the required mechanic without revealing major story events.

Movable Block and High Ledge

Reader object movement
  1. 1Find the ledge marked with visible scratches.
  2. 2Use the Reader cursor to grab the highlighted block or statue.
  3. 3Drag it directly beneath the ledge and release it on a flat surface.
  4. 4Move Quill onto the block and jump or climb onto the ledge.
If Quill cannot climb, adjust the block until its top edge sits close to the scratched ledge.

Raised or Rotating Platform Crossing

Reader platform control
  1. 1Move Quill onto the safe starting platform.
  2. 2Grab the movable platform with the Reader.
  3. 3Raise, slide or rotate it until it connects the two walkable edges.
  4. 4Keep holding the mechanism if it resets automatically.
  5. 5Move Quill across before releasing the platform.
Some rooms require moving the same platform twice: once to carry Quill and again to create the exit route.

Arcane Enemy on a Pressure Plate

Reader enemy control
  1. 1Leave at least one beetle-like Arcane enemy alive.
  2. 2Stun or grab it with the Reader interaction.
  3. 3Drag the enemy onto the pressure plate or target mechanism.
  4. 4Hold it in place until the gate, bridge or platform finishes moving.
  5. 5Send Quill through before defeating or releasing the enemy.
If the mechanism turns off, center the enemy on the plate or continue holding it with the Reader.

Timed Switch with Quill and an Arcane

Dual control
  1. 1Place Quill beside the route that opens when the switch is active.
  2. 2Control an Arcane enemy with the Reader and move it toward the switch.
  3. 3Trigger the switch with the enemy.
  4. 4Immediately guide Quill through the opened route while maintaining Reader control.
  5. 5Release the enemy after Quill reaches a safe platform.
Position Quill before activating the switch so no time is wasted.

Hidden Path or Glass Platform

Path-reveal ability
  1. 1Look for a dead end, unreachable collectible or incomplete route.
  2. 2Use the acquired reveal interaction on the nearby marked area.
  3. 3Wait for the hidden glass platform or pathway to appear.
  4. 4Move Quill across and search the surrounding area for optional collectibles.
Twilight Garden rewards and later abilities reveal paths that could not be accessed earlier.

Vine Growth and Climbing Route

Nature Attunement
  1. 1Locate the dormant plant or disconnected vine near the destination.
  2. 2Use the Reader's Nature Attunement interaction to grow or redirect it.
  3. 3Connect the vine to a wall, ledge or second plant until it forms a continuous route.
  4. 4Guide Quill onto the vine and climb to the next platform.
If the vine stops short, look for another plant anchor or approach it from the opposite side.

Sword, Chakram or Hammer Switch

Book II weapon puzzles
  1. 1Identify whether the target is distant, heavy or connected to a traversal gap.
  2. 2Use the charged sword ability for dash-based gaps and sword-related mechanisms.
  3. 3Use the chakram when a switch must be struck from range.
  4. 4Use the hammer on heavy objects and mechanisms that ignore lighter attacks.
  5. 5Complete the opened route before the mechanism resets.
The target's distance, weight and shape usually indicate which weapon is required.

Late-Game Mirror Routing

Light and reflection
  1. 1Find the light source, each movable mirror and the final receiver.
  2. 2Rotate the mirror closest to the source first.
  3. 3Follow the beam and adjust each mirror in order.
  4. 4Continue until the beam reaches the receiver.
  5. 5Move Quill after the connected mechanism or route activates.
Work from the light source toward the receiver so the incorrectly aligned mirror is easy to identify.

Moss The Forgotten Relic Scrolls, Dust and Secrets

Track Forgotten Fragments, Relic Dust, stained-glass rewards, Twilight Garden portals and secret armor areas across both books.

Book I

Forgotten Fragment Scrolls

  • Move Reader-controlled blocks into alternate positions to reach optional ledges.
  • Look behind buildings, gates, statues and foreground scenery before changing rooms.
  • Collecting the scroll fragments restores the stained-glass artwork shown between chapters.

The Mire TempleLast RespiteThe Abandoned City

  • Completing the connected Twilight Garden route adds optional puzzles, equipment rewards and the Recast Commander encounter.
Book II

Stained-Glass Fragment Sets

48 Forgotten Fragments, with eight fragments assigned to each of six stained-glass areas

CastleSprite RealmGarden and ConservatoryMountains and DepthsFoundryPinnacle
  • Return to earlier rooms after obtaining Nature Attunement, Sword Dash, the Charged Chakram and Cariel's Hammer.
  • Use growing vines and root bridges to reach high or previously disconnected platforms.
  • Reveal hidden glass platforms and inspect routes concealed behind foreground structures.
  • Use the hammer on armored mechanisms and heavy obstacles blocking collectible paths.
Book II

Relic Dust and Secret Armor

Break containers and open all three Relic Shrines

  • Break every barrel, crate, pot and destructible container with Quill or the Reader.
  • Check both sides of bridges, elevators and room transitions because dust containers can sit outside the main camera focus.
  • Use collected dust to open sealed Relic Shrine doors.
  • Explore each shrine completely to obtain the optional armor sets stored inside.
Progress Check

How to Confirm Missing Collectibles

Review progress before repeating complete sections

  • For Book I, open Chapter Select and inspect the collectible progress shown for each chapter.
  • For Book II, use the Objectives screen to review fragments, dust and other unfinished goals.
  • Finish the story before final cleanup so every traversal ability is available.
  • Revisit rooms containing unreachable ledges, inactive mechanisms, glass platforms or sealed shrine doors.
